If you use AI, you are the reason the Internet is dying. The dead Internet theory is alive and well in 2025 and god damn, some people just love to wade in the slop. Every day I have to be polite to AI users and try not to sound too harsh when I say I'm anti AI, because they get offended and upset when I call them slopmancers.
I'm sick of being polite.
If you use AI, you are actively contributing to the death of the Internet. It's so difficult to find anything made by humans now, because people are convinced that making things faster is better.
I've been sat on blog posts since at least August because it turns out, writing is pretty hard. But why would I struggle when I can be a slopmancer?
AI is trained on stolen work, regardless of how you look at it. It's stealing from authors and artists purely by having scraped them for its data set. AI affects the environment. It consumes a massive amount of water and makes it so some places with data centres are barely liveable due to the constant power usage.
It isn't even right most of the time. Why would I destroy the environment and plagiarise in order to get a wrong answer about something? I can chug a glass of water, leave the lights on for a whole day and get stuff wrong and you don't see me bragging about it.
It's been shown again and again how AI hallucinates answers. Yet people are using it like a search engine when it's little more intelligent than the predictive text on your phone.
"But it helps me parse things". Just figure it out like a normal human did before AI. You don't need AI to parse things for you. If in doubt, ask a real, live human?
"It answers questions I have". Just ask an actual human, they can give you a more concrete answer and not consume so much water and cause various cancers.
"It's my friend". AI is not your friend. It's programmed to be friendly to you no matter what. It will actively send you into psychosis if you're not careful, but okay.
I'm so tired of AI being shoved into everything. I've had to move apps for things so many times because corporations keep shoving AI into their products where it's not needed. (Do I really need an LLM to tell me my train is delayed?)
I'm tired of being polite to AI users. I'm tired of being polite about AI. It's not a useful tool and by god I hope the bubble pops soon.
The internet is dying because AI is feeding on everything, including itself. It was never useful, but now it's even less useful than before. I have to add "reddit" to the end of my searches just to get a hopefully human answer. I'm so tired of waking up to new slop.
Please, stop killing the internet.
